Charlottetown - Parkdale resident and Birchwood Intermediate School Principal Ron Carragher is seeking the Progressive Conservative nomination for District 11, Charlottetown-Belvedere, in the next provincial election.
“I am very passionate about my community and I see the real challenges faced daily by our seniors, our youth and our families. I want to be the voice for District 11 that together with the strong leadership of Dennis King and the PC Party will be able to offer the residents of District 11 a strong, viable and principled approach for positive change and growth,” says Carragher.
Carragher was born and raised in Emyvale but has deep roots in District 11 after living in the area for over 37 years with his wife Cindy where together they raised their sons Mark and Scott, both whom also live in the Sherwood-Parkdale area with their families. He has been an educator on Prince Edward Island for more than three decades and has spent the last twelve years as Principal of Birchwood Intermediate School. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from UPEI and his Masters of Education degree from Saint Mary’s University.
Carragher had an accomplished minor hockey career and competed in national championships at the junior, intermediate, university and senior levels. Carragher was a key member of the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros Junior team in the late 1970’s along with the Hardy Cup winning Charlottetown Islanders and UPEI Panthers squads in the 1980’s. Carragher captained the 1991 Allan Cup winning Charlottetown Armour Fence Islanders which was inducted into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
Carragher has a wealth of experience working with Island youth and has been an active community volunteer with several organizations including as Chair of the UPEI Men’s Alumni Hockey Association, and as a former coach of Sherwood-Parkdale Metros and the UPEI Men’s Hockey team. Carragher feels that his many years in the classroom and as a leader in education working with teachers, youth, their families and several municipal and provincial organizations gives him an excellent understanding of the needs of the community today.
“We need to have a government that takes a different approach to issues and focuses more on people. That’s the kind of leadership Dennis King brings and why I want to be part of his new PC team,” says Carragher.
The District 11 PC Nomination for Charlottetown-Belvedere will be held on Monday, March 18th at Park Royal Church beginning at 6:30 p.m.
