Colin LaVie to seek re-election in Souris-Elmira

Souris, PE - Souris-Elmira MLA and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Colin LaVie today announced that he is seeking re-election for District 1, Souris-Elmira, in the next provincial election.

“Since being first elected I have worked to be a strong advocate for our community and the people of Souris-Elmira as their MLA. I would be honoured to keep serving the people of Souris-Elmira in a new Dennis King PC government if the people put their trust in me to represent them,” says LaVie.

A lifelong resident of Souris, Colin’s community roots run deep. He fished lobster out of Souris harbour for more than 25 years, the fourth generation of his family to do so. Continuing another family tradition LaVie was a member of the Souris Fire Department for 39 years, many as the longtime Chief. Colin remains a volunteer fixture at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex.

First elected to represent Souris-Elmira in 2011, LaVie was re-elected in 2015 and in 2019. LaVie has served as Opposition Whip and Fisheries Critics and sat as a member of the Standing Committees on Fisheries and Agriculture and Communities, Land, and Environment. LaVie was elected Speaker in 2019 by all parties in the Legislature and chairs the Standing Committee on Legislative Management.

“In my role as Speaker I have tried to treat all members with fairness and respect and I feel that I have done that. The last four years have seen many changes to how the Legislature works and I want to continue to help make the Legislature work better for Islanders in a new Dennis King PC government” says LaVie.

Colin has two children, Shawn and Natasha, and lives in Souris with his wife Shelley.
