Charlottetown - In a first for Island politics, the PEI Progressive Conservative Association will hold its nomination convention over multiple days to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election in District 10, Charlottetown-Winsloe.
“I’m very pleased by the caliber of candidates who have put their names forward to represent District 10 for our party. I’m proud of the tremendous work that has been done by our provincial executive to ensure that our members will be able to safely exercise their democratic rights while respecting the current public health guidelines. I’m excited that we will be making Island political history by holding our nomination over several days,” said Premier Dennis King.
The District 10 Charlottetown-Winsloe nomination will be held over two days – Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd. The nomination will have both in person and online components. The candidate speeches will be pre-recorded, posted online and shared directly with voting members in advance of voting which will be by secret, preferential ballot. The in-person components of the nomination will be held at 423 Mount Edward Road (former Sherwood BMR location).
The party has submitted a detailed operational plan to the Chief Public Health Office (CPHO) covering the safety protocols to be used during the nomination. The plan for voting & vote counting has received approval from the Chief Public Health Office and will be available online and at the voting location.
“I can’t say enough about the work done by our committed volunteers to get everything in order to hold a nominating convention during a State of Public Health Emergency. We’re ready and excited to hold this nomination in a safe and exciting way,” said PC Party President Charles Blue.
Declared candidates seeking the District 10 Charlottetown-Winsloe nomination are (in alphabetical order by last name): Zack Bell, Susie Dillon and Sonya Hooper.
