Dr. Sarah Stewart-Clark to seek PC nomination in Charlottetown-Hillsborough

Charlottetown - Scientist, mother and community mental health advocate Dr. Sarah Stewart-Clark has announced her intention to seek the Progressive Conservative nomination for District 9, Charlottetown-Hillsborough, in the next provincial election.

“Change begins with action and that’s why I am taking this step to help do my part. Like many Islanders I want to see a more equitable, just and prosperous future and being part of the PC team under the leadership of James Aylward is the best way to make that happen for all Islanders,” says Stewart-Clark.

Stewart-Clark grew up in Sherwood and attended Sherwood Elementary, Birchwood Jr High and Charlottetown Rural High School. She earned her BSc Hon and MSc degrees in the Faculty of Science and her doctorate from the Atlantic Veterinary College at UPEI. Stewart-Clark is an associate professor at the Faculty of Agriculture at Dalhousie University. Her research program is focused on helping Maritime oyster and mussel sectors prepare for climate change. In 2014 her work was featured on an episode of Land and Sea.

Dr. Stewart-Clark lives in Charlottetown and is married to Dr. Fraser Clark. She is the proud mother of Rory Clark and of a child lost in a miscarriage. Since the birth of her son in 2011, Stewart-Clark has helped build and lead local grassroots groups and campaigns to improve access to mental healthcare and to advocate and serve vulnerable Islanders through Island Mothers Helping Mothers, #HowManyWade, and Christmas in the Village along with advocacy for survivors of sexual violence on Prince Edward Island. This extraordinary dedication to community service in PEI was acknowledged with a nomination in 2018 to receive the Order of Prince Edward Island.

“Through my advocacy work I have heard from countless Islanders from all walks of life and gain a better understanding of the challenges our community faces from many different perspectives. I am unafraid to challenge systems that are not efficiently serving Islanders and I am putting my name forward as a candidate to help be part of the solution,” concludes Stewart-Clark.
